I looked around. The lake looked familiar. I was certain I must’ve come here in my youth. I probably bathed in it, drank from it. It was all a blur inside my head, images flashing by too quickly to grab a hold of.

“Don’t look so sad, kid,” Doug said as he folded his sleeping bag out before laying on top of it. He exhaled and then smiled as he stared up at the massive expanse of blue sky and puffy white clouds.

“I feel like two people, Doug. I feel like two people that are both vying for control of me. I’m a super wolf and a nerdy college freshman. I’m both feral and tame. I want to do good and I want to do nothing.”

He laughed. “You’re a teenager, Lucas; that’s just your hormones talking.”

“You think that’s it?”

“I know that’s it,” he replied. “We’ve all been there.”
