“Umm, you have a small piece of lettuce stuck in one of the braces.” He used a finger to point to the bottom row of his teeth, and shoot me now.
I snapped my mouth shut and felt my face heat. Idiot.
When I didn’t say anything, Ryker added, “Okay, well, thanks again for everything. You’re the best roomie I’ve ever had, even though I still do a better pot roast than you.”
“Hey! Not true,” I retorted, then remembered the lettuce and pressed my lips together. When all he did was grin at me, I rolled my eyes and mumbled, “Go away.”
He blew me a cheeky kiss, said goodbye to Gavin, and headed outside to his truck. I sighed and rubbed my face. I could admit to myself, if no one else, that it was going to suck going home to an empty house, even though I knew I had no right to expect anything else.
“You’re not alright, are you?” Gavin asked, and when I glanced at him, he appeared guilty.
