Chapter 14

“Can you get the boots off?” he asked.

“I think so. What about the wings?”

As she said that, the spork broke against the tension of the ankle bonds. “Let’s not count on the spork.” Stephanie laughed a somewhat rueful laugh.

“Can you contract the wings a little more?” The Wisp looked at her restraints. They wrapped around the wings several times but seemed to be of the same material as the wrist and ankle bonds.

Standing in front of him, Blue bird closed her eyes and the wings fluttered a bit and folded more closely to her body. The bonds weren’t wrapped too tightly and loosened enough for the Wisp to remove them.

The girl heaved a sigh of relief and unfurled the wings fully. Mason was always impressed with her wings and how the blue almost violet feathers contrasted with the light blue hue of her skin. She was a beautiful young woman, and he resisted the urge to hug her or maybe slug her. He was relieved to see her still alive but also so very angry at her.
