“Despite our differences,” said Ezra, “we’ve adapted and, in a way, the obstacles have made things more interesting, more exciting.”
Ezra’s whole demeanour changed. His expression grew more serious. He wrapped his arms around Liam’s legs and looked into his eyes for several seconds before he spoke again.
“I want to tell you I love you, and that I don’t want to make your decision any harder than it already is. I will simply say once more that I love you, and I will respect your decision, whatever it is.”
Liam’s eyes welled with tears as he saw Ezra’s eyes redden and a single tear spill onto his bronzed cheek.
“Go away now and contemplate everything. In a week, you will tell me your decision, and we’ll take things from there. Goodbye, my love.” Ezra lifted himself out of the water, pushing down with his tail.
Liam leaned across to meet his lips and they kissed for several minutes, neither wanting to let go of the other. “I love you, too,” he whispered into Ezra’s ear.
