“I don’t get the feeling you plan to make a career of this, but a guy could do worse. You prob’ly should go on and get your education, though. I couldn’t afford college at your age, and once I got seniority, I didn’t feel it was worth my time to give it up for a piece of paper that might get me a cup of java with a dollar. I wasn’t cut out to be an office weenie or a high-flying engineer.”

Roane dragged his gaze from Alden’s compelling dark stare and rubbed the back of his neck, fighting an urge to squirm. This funny feeling had him on edge. He’d never felt this way before, an unexpected urge to touch the other man’s face or lay his hand over Alden’s where it rested on the table. What the fuck’s going on? I haven’t had that much to drink—two beers never put me in a fog like this before.
