“Let me guess,” he said. “No fire?”

“I don’t want to be recaptured,” said Akton, selecting a mostly-flat area far enough off the road to be hidden. He let down his packs. “I’m going to do a quick loop around the area.”

Talfryn shrugged and lowered himself to the ground. By the time Akton had assured himself through sight, scent, and smell that they were safe enough here, Talfryn was sitting on his bedroll, eating a handful of nuts. He didn’t try to start another conversation. Akton figured Talfryn was even more tired than he was—he probably ended up doing much less physical labor in his day to day life. And you couldn’t make up for that by fucking someone every other night.
