Chapter 42

“It’s not your fault,” he said, setting his gaze on the road ahead. “Your intentions were good, and it was a crisis. I meant I think we should use our crowns to resupply. You found most of yours in the ash, and I have mine still. You need a new pack, clothes, boots…”

“Basic herbs and bandages, food…” Talfryn sighed. “I was planning on being back in Teorg by now. With a bit of an adventure under my belt, a couple of good nights spent with you, and a bag of new reading material. I can’t imagine what Glenna’s thinking. That I’ve run off or died, I suppose.”

“You did run off,” said Akton.

“Thanks.”

“I’m not saying it wasn’t necessary. I’m sure my family all think I’ve died. All of Eizyn burned, after all. But we…can’t go back yet. If we don’t get this information to Queen Ylenia, then they will all probably die. We’ll make our excuses and explanations later. For now, we have to figure out how to get to Ylenia, and that means resupplying.”
