Before Talfryn could reply to that a cheer went up, rippling out from the street toward the palace. The queen’s carriage pulled up, Ylenia within, waving. She rode up to the basin and got out, wearing clothes with a fur hood turned up to keep her face in shadow. Shanna got out of the carriage next, holding a platter covered with spell packets, and then Eynri with a golden torch.
“Citizens of Emylnor,” said Ylenia, and silence fell. “This season we have much to celebrate. You have defeated an enemy who attempted to take your homes and land from you and rule under threat of death. Thanks to you, Basil of Yskorr is vanquished, and we will continue to prosper.”
