“What happened between you and Chris?” Darren asked.
I shrugged. “I don’t know. I really don’t. One night he told me our relationship wasn’t working and a week later I was back at my mother’s house. I’m still shell-shocked.”
“You didn’t have any clue this was coming?”
“No. I thought things were good between us. I mean, Chris isn’t always the most talkative guy, but he usually lets me know when he’s unhappy about something. The breakup totally blindsided me.”
“Was he seeing someone else?”
I shook my head. “I don’t think so. Chris wasn’t a cheater and neither was I.”
Tired of rehashing my relationship woes, I asked Darren about his breakup with Carlos.
“Carlos and I just grew apart. It was good until it wasn’t, you know? We tried to make it work for a while, and then we both just gave up.”
“My mother told me your parents didn’t like him.”
“They didn’t.”
“Why?”
