Chapter 47

“Right. Yeah, tons of money.” Billy rolled his eyes and checked the traffic again. “Are you in school?”

“Nope.”

“What are you gonna do out in Arizona?”

“I have a sister there and she says I can hang around.” Grant blew smoke between them. He was fidgeting. Seemed edgy all of a sudden. “You know what—I’m gonna get off here. I’m getting car sick and all. I’m just gonna walk to the next exit and wait the traffic out.”

Xavier frowned. “That doesn’t sound like a good idea.”

“No, like, for real. I need to get out.” Grant tossed his cigarette out of the window and grabbed his bag. “You guys are real cool.” He popped his door open and climbed out.

“Well—hey, careful out there,” Billy said, a little confused. He turned to look at Xavier. “What the hell?”

Xavier shrugged. “Good bye, Grant. Have fun in Arizona.”

Grant was still standing by Billy’s window. Then he leaned into the car. “Get out here, Billy, and gimme a hug, man. You’re too awesome.”
