Chapter 53

Every day was a rerun of a show he didn’t particularly enjoy. But somehow, the moment they’d hit Bourbon Street and taste their first beer, the madness would take hold of him again, and he wouldn’t want to stop. Billy was so much fun when he was drunk, and on that dance floor, they’d go crazy, forgetting their daily promises or sobriety pledges.

Xavier exhaled, looking around at the mess of food containers and dirty clothes on the floor. He decided he’d clean up the room, unpack whatever clean clothes were left, go see about the laundry room, and then take a long hot shower. After that, he’d get some breakfast, something healthy for a change, for Billy and him. Man, when was the last time they had fruit, aside from the slice of orange on their plate at the diner?

But before he did all that, he’d go to the communal kitchen and drink tenglasses of water.
