“All kinds of love are important, and I’d like to meet Katie, if she’s that important to you. Once you find out for sure that your friends are in the clear, I have a place in France. We could go, get to know each other away from work, and I can meet Katie.” Ian sounds hesitant, like maybe he thinks Ryan will reject his offer.


“I’d like that. I want to talk to her, face to face, to see if she’d mind me coming out. No bullshit or games here. I want to date you, not fuck you in secret. I like your company, and when you text me, I always smile. I think that’s worth going for, worth maybe losing some people.”


“I like how you tell me what you’re thinking or feeling. I presume you get from me asking you to go to France that I’d be open to dating. I haven’t dated a lot because usually I have to hide my job, but you know what I do. Hell, you do illegal stuff, too, for animals. You’re not going to get me in trouble, and maybe I can even use some of my skills to get involved with your group.”
