Chapter 36

“You’re leaving?” Coop choked out. “Why? I thought you would stay here with us.” Coop left the room and slammed his bedroom door.

“Shit.” Colt tried to get off the couch but without success. Dean held his shoulder down. “Coop!” Colt yelled to his nephew. “Come out here now.” Colt muted the movie when Coop returned. “First of all, no slamming doors.”

Coop looked to his uncle with tears in his eyes. “Sorry,” he mumbled.

“Secondly, Dean has a home somewhere else. He doesn’t live here. You know that.”

Coop whispered softly, “I know, but I want us to be a family.”

“I’m not leaving, Coop. I just called home to check on my family and was told my brother went missing. I need to help them anyway I can.” Dean was choked up, yes, about his brother, but also about leaving Colt and the sadness in Coop’s eye and the idea Coop wanted him to be part of their family.
