Chapter 5

“They have him.”

Eyebrow cocked, Warden asked, “And how do you know that?”

Even as he questioned Snap, he couldn’t shake the gut feeling his little partner in crime was right. It bugged him how unbothered and completely unfazed the trolls were to discover Tate was missing. They hated Tate, considered him a spoil sport when it came to their attempts to have fun. Never mind the fact that their idea of good times usually meant harming humans, which drew unnecessary focus on those lurking in the Underground.

“Where would they be keeping him? I didn’t notice much in the shadow of the bridge.”

“First off, there’s no elf around here. None of them wanted to bother with this dirty world,” explained Snap, quite matter of fact. “And if an elf did happen to show up, they certainly wouldn’t kidnap Tate. Bow down at his feet, yes. Take him and risk angering him? Never.”

“So I ask again, where are they keeping him?”
