Chapter 11

Trotting carefully in the direction of the road that cut through the farmland where he had been hunting, he saw headlights. Two sets of headlights meant two cars. Kelly tucked himself into a little dip behind a tree and watched. Simon was struggling with the lug nuts on one of the front wheels of the car. Bummer, flat tires were a pain, but four paws weren’t capable of lending a hand. A man who Kelly didn’t recognize was standing there talking to Simon, and it seemed he might be about to help out, then there was a knife. Kelly froze. And the rest of it went down in the span of about three seconds.
