“With my mom. She kind of made me talk to her.”

“You should talk to your mom. How’d it go?”

“Well, that’s the thing. She wants us to come to dinner on Sunday night.” I held my breath. We still hadn’t been going out a long time. Having him meet the family might be too big of a step for Casey. I couldn’t blame him.

“This Sunday?”

I swallowed. “Uh, yeah. Listen, I know it’s really soon. So, um, it’s cool. I can go without you.”

“No, no. Sunday is fine. I’m almost there.”

“Tonight? I have class in a little bit. I thought I was coming over tomorrow night?”

“Yeah, you are.” There was a pause. “I just thought you could stay tonight, too. I’ll take you to class and then pick you up after. I happen to know you don’t have to work tomorrow and I took the day off myself.”

“I—you did?” Oh Lord, that sounded like a squeal, didn’t it? But hell, I could hardly help it.

“I did. I figured we could maybe do some couple things together.”
