Chapter 14

“Ever been here?” Luka asked.

“I’ve never even heard of it.”

“It’s kind of a hole-in-the-wall, but the food is amazing and they have live music every Friday and Saturday night. I have a friend playing in the band tonight, and I’d promised I’d come see him.”

Jacob grinned. “Sounds fun.”

Luka smiled and hung the bike helmets from the handle. “The owner’s dad is a police officer—nobody ever touches anything in this parking lot.”

Jacob nodded. Made sense to him.

“Ready for our first date, Jacob?” Luka took Jacob’s hand and interlaced their fingers.

Jacob nodded again as they made their way to the door.

Loud music washed over them as soon as they entered. Luka tilted his head at the bartender as they walked across the room to an empty table at the side. Close enough to see the stage, but far enough away to be more private. Perfect.

Jacob slid off his jacket and set it on the back of his chair, then settled himself at the table.

Luka leaned over. “What do you want to drink?”
