Chapter 41

Ten minutes later, they were packed and heading out in the shelter van—all except Luka and Marcus. The two other men would wait a few minutes before leaving in Luka’s car. They planned to park a block away, then make their way back to the shelter under the cover of trees and bushes, entering through the back yard. There they would wait, settle in, and make themselves comfortable in the living room.

Jacob and the others, however, waited at a diner around the corner.

“Hey, it’ll be fine,” Garrett said from across the booth.

“I can’t shake this feeling they could be in danger.” He sighed and glanced at the kids playing retro arcade games.

“Luka and Marcus can handle themselves just fine.”

“I know you’re right, but I…really care about him.”

Garrett chuckled. “Anyone with eyes can see he’s just as into you, too.”

A smile spread across Jacob’s face as his heart fluttered. “Yeah?”

“Definitely.”
