Chapter 24

“Do you think it will help if she met me?” I asked tentatively. We’d just finished dinner. Tru had cooked some chicken casserole thing that tasted amazing, and I was loading the dishwasher. He’d been fretting about his mother since he’d shown up at my door two hours earlier.

“I don’t know. She froze me out when I tried to tell her I was coming here for dinner.” He sighed and rubbed his face hard. “Maybe?”

“Say the word, and I’ll go with you to talk to her.”

“Now?”

Not exactly what I’d meant, but if he wanted to do it right away, I wasn’t opposed.

“If you want.” I crossed the room and pulled him into my arms, tipping up his face so I could kiss him.

I could see his mind working. Then he nodded. “Let’s go.”
