Chapter 29

I stood and crossed the room, giving them as much privacy as I could while they cried and hugged. I wasn’t a part of this, and they needed to do their own healing. I looked out the window, taking in the beautiful garden outside. This place had a tranquility I believed would help anyone.

“Wyatt?”

Lucy’s voice brought me back to the present, and I turned to her. She’d mopped her face, and offered a tentative smile. “Thank you for coming today. I know you had no reason to.”

I looked at Tru. “I had every reason.”

Lucy gasped, then sighed. “You love him?”

“Mom!”

“Very much.” I laughed. “He won me over when I didn’t think it was possible. Just by being him. How could I not?”

A soft knock at the door had us turning in that direction. The man standing there smiled. “Just checking in. How’s everything going?”

“We’re okay.” Lucy stood. “This is one of my counselors, Carlos. This is my son Tru, and his boyfriend Wyatt.”
