“Grandfather, it is I, Standing Elk,” Robert said in English, “I have brought someone to meet you. May I speak the white’s tongue so that he will understand?”
“Enyan’.” The old man nodded.
“Grandfather, White Wolf has returned to us.”
At Robert’s words, Great Eagle sat up straight, his eyebrows raised. He held out a hand. “Bring him to me.”
Robert urged Morgan forward. He knelt before the old man who reached out and ran his hands over Morgan’s face and shoulders.
Great Eagle shuddered and sighed. “Waabishki-ma’iingan.”Then, with difficulty, Great Eagle rose to a kneeling position and opened his arms. Morgan rose so the old man could hug him. He saw tears well up in Great Eagles eyes.
When both had sat down, Robert came and sat with them. “Grandfather, White Wolf has been brought home to us by the Wolf Spirit. He needs to know of the prophecy so he will understand why.”
