Chapter 41

“Yeah, Ojibis,” the boy continued. “Their names are White Wolf and Grey Wolf and they’re cousins and they said I could be Strong Bear and…” He turned to Morgan and James, who were now standing. “Can you say my name again in Indian?”

James turned to Morgan, a hand outstretched, indicating it was Morgan’s turn.

Looking at James, Morgan said hesitantly, “Mashkawizi-makwa.”

James smiled and nodded.

After a few minutes of conversation, the family left.

“Score one for improved interracial relations. Maybe this prophecy thing is working already,” James said. It wasn’t quite sarcastic, but James said it in a way that made Morgan feel he wasn’t being serious. James pulled his cell from the back pocket of his shorts and looked at it. “Two forty-five. You eaten yet?”

Morgan shook his head.

“Come on. I’ll take you to lunch. My treat.”

“That’s nice of you. Thanks.”

James laughed. “No big deal. We own the place.”
