“I definitely don’t want her to come around again.”
“Do you think she will?”
“She’s unpredictable, but if she thinks I have another girlfriend, maybe she got the message.” Mickey downed almost all of her drink and got up to get another.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that,” I said softly.
“I’m sorry you had to see it.”
“Don’t worry about me. Just take care of yourself,” I told her. I looked up to see her studying me intently. “What?”
She shook her head. “You’re handling this quite well.” She had a full glass in her hand.
“It has nothing to do with me. I just hope you can handle it well.”
She nodded. “Jessica has always been hot-headed,” she said as she walked back and sat on the couch, a little closer this time. “We ended up having raging arguments, but that ended months ago. That’s really the reason I moved back here.”
“Whatever the reason, I’m glad you did.”
She smiled at me. “Thank you.”
We sat in silence for a few moments, sipping our vodka tonics.
