“What do you recall after that?”

“I got up, washed and dressed myself, and walked.” Dearne rubbed his face. “Beyond that, I recall nothing.” Dearne’s head was aching. “Describe the man who came to tell you I had lost the Manor again.”

Will frowned. “He was tall, quite handsome, fair-haired…” Will was scowling, those dark brows drawn down. “Can you remember where you were?”

Dearne shrugged. “London?”

“How long have you been in the country?”

Dearne shrugged again and then blinked rapidly and held up a hand. “York. It was York.” Elation bubbled through him as the memory shaped up a little. “I remember the Minster.”

“Do you remember anything else?”

Dearne closed his eyes and held his head but as much as he concentrated, that appeared to be it. He shook his head and returned to the question of the man who had told them the house had been sold.
