“Cox, Lady Araminta needs to rest. Please make sure her room is ready and aired, and ask Cook to prepare a light meal for her. She will need a draught to calm her nerves but I will see to that.”


“Captain Dearne, I am delighted to see you are well.”


Dearne wracked his brain for a name. “Thank you, Miss…”


“Miss Rose Campbell,” she said, and dropped a very brief curtsey. “I am your sister’s companion. I have been for some time now.”


“Miss Campbell. Delighted to make your acquaintance. Might I take the opportunity to introduce Mr. Marsden? You might remember him.” He turned to Will who smiled and offered a small bow to the ladies.


“Miss Rose,” the woman corrected and then nodded to Will.


Dearne turned back to his sister. “Minty, Mr. Marsden was the steward at Denton, and is responsible for my continued survival, and for that, he has my eternal gratitude.”
