Two stops later, after we’d both caught our breath, and the terror had abated, I asked, “Are you all right?”

Lisa swallowed and nodded. “I’m okay.” She looked at me, her eyes the same color as her…brother…orcousin? “Thanks for being there, Mr. Yoo. I didn’t think anyone would hear me. That guy came out of nowhere.” She shuddered and rubbed both hands over her face.

“Call me Hanson,” I replied. “You seemed to be doing fine on your own. All I did was run beside you, mostly.”

“It was more than that. You were there, and I owe you. How about lunch on me next Saturday?”

“How about you tell me why you were in a dark alley in the first place?”
