Chapter 31

Jim was afraid they wouldn’t allow him to visit Alan. He found out differently when the nurse at the hospital’s front desk readily gave him Alan’s room number, telling him Alan was in a semi-private room.

When he got to the third floor, he asked a nurse where 311 was. She pointed him in the right direction and moments later he was standing beside Alan’s bed.

“You don’t look half as bad as I expected,” Jim said quietly, in deference to the man in the other bed, who seemed to be sleeping.

“I’ve got a hard head,” Alan replied with a small grin. “They’re keeping me overnight because I’ve got a mild concussion. I guess they’re not supposed to set me free until they know I’m going to be okay on my own.”

“Here,” Jim said, handing Alan his glasses.

“They survived. Thank you!” He put them on. “Now, I can see.”

Jim chuckled. “Always a good thing. You’ll take tomorrow off work, I hope.”

“Well…”
