Chapter 7

Head down, thumbing through a bunch of useless texts on his cellphone, he passed Mr. Persimmon’s Little Bookshop. Since he had half of Robert Riley’s Blood to Wishesread, there was no reason to stop in the bookshop yet to discuss the piece. Plus, he didn’t need another book to enjoy since he had plenty sitting next to his bedside: a dozen or more of Agatha Christie’s (The Body in the Library, The Hollow, Then there were None, The Pale Horse), Duma Keyby Stephen King, The Separationby Kate Kitamura, and the new one by Paula Hawkins called Into the Water. The last thing he needed was another hardback novel. Better continue to walk, ignoring the retail shop and its many wonderful reads.

Concentrating on his cellular’s screen, he saw that he had two texts from his father, Alfred

The first text said:Reached out to Ben Lansing. He wants to go out with you.

The second text read: Dinner tomorrow with me? Let me know.
