Chapter 6

“I went back to Sydney after we separated. I spent about a year there, then flew to London. I worked in a few bars and restaurants. I met Bryce and we started dating. Fell in love and got married, when it became legal, and had two sons.”

“His from a previous marriage?”

“No. A friend of ours helped out. One from his sperm and the other from mine.”

“Nice. One each.”

It wasn’t until after their main course, and during coffee, that Daniel opened up a little more. They’d polished off a bottle and a half of wine, which had the usual effect of loosening tongues.

“To tell the truth, I came back to Perth to see my parents, and to think. Bryce and I have been having problems for over a year or so. Then I found out Bryce had slept with someone else. Twice. We’ve seen a marriage counsellor, but I can’t seem to get past the betrayal. Not so much that he slept with someone else, but that he kept it from me.”
