“I haven’t,” Tony replied. “Not that I wander the halls looking for strangers,” he added with a brief smile. “It’s an older building, as you can see, so there’s the occasional electrician or plumber, like Cal, but they have to be buzzed in by a tenant or the manager.”

“Without the tenant knowing for certain it really is a repair person?” Sanders asked.

Tony shrugged. “Possibly. The same goes for delivery people too, I suspect.”

“I’d say more often than not, unfortunately,” Alan added. “Half the tenants are elderly. Going down to make certain whoever buzzed is who they say they are can be a bother for them.”

Sanders nodded. “Including you?”

Alan grinned. “Nope. I’m a spry old man and I live on the third floor, as you know. I figure walking down to check is good exercise.”

Sanders turned to Tony. “You do the same?”

“Yes.”
