Chapter 12

“Words can’t express what that means to me,” Danny continued, “and I’m thankful for it. You saved me, body and soul. I’d love to become a part of your family, if the offer still stands.”

“Fuck, yes!” Roscoe shouted, jumping up to grab Danny by the shoulders and kiss him soundly on the mouth.

Not to be outdone, Ret also stood and hugged Danny from behind, nibbling on his neck. Before it became a free for all, I got everyone to calm down so we could focus on eating.

As we relaxed with good food and drink, Ret, Roscoe, and I shared stories of our own childhoods, and the mischief we’d each gotten up to. The hours passed, and smiles flowed freely, as did the liqueur.

We all helped to clean up, and then Roscoe cut the cheesecake and we all retired to the living room where I’d added more pillows so we could recline comfortably on the floor. The fire blazed merrily, and the sun was low in the late afternoon sky.

Ret spoke to Danny. “Come sit by me, love.”
