Chapter 39

“Couldn’t sleep?” I asked as I sat across from him and shared some out for myself.

He shrugged. “I’m used to getting up in the middle of the night for an hour or two before going back to sleep. Dunno why, but I’ve done that for years.”

“So what you’re saying is I need to try harder to wear you out.” I grinned around my spoon and he rolled his eyes.

“We’re in our forties. There’s only so much we can do.”

“Speak for yourself, old man. In my mind, I’ll always have the stamina of a twenty-five-year-old, thank you very much. You have been warned.”

Sam looked at me with mock fear. “I don’t know if I’m man enough for you, Bo Clack.”

“Oh, you are, Professor, don’t you worry.”

And of course, that caused an immediate response, including an impromptu chase around the kitchen, the spoon still in my mouth as I tried to dodge Sam all the way back to the bedroom.
