Chapter 24

“Y-You do?”

Amir’s face burned as he went into panic mode. “I mean, I care. I care about you. I don’t want to see you suffer. I don’t want to see anyone suffer, but you—I think you’re cute. Really cute. Since the day I met Declan I knew you could do better. Never thought it’d be me, because, well, I’m a hot mess myself sometimes and I didn’t think I was necessarily better or whatever, but at least I knew I’d never hurt you. I wished I had someone like you as my boyfriend because I was jealous of you and Declan, but only because he got to be with you and I didn’t.” He said all of this in what felt like ten seconds, but if the laws of time and space had broken it could have been ten minutes. There were no windows in the workshop. For all he knew the rest of the world had vanished, or maybe this room had been jettisoned to another dimension where he was doomed to make an idiot of himself when he was supposed to be helping.
