Chapter 15

“Compatible?”

“All right, yes. Compatible.”

“What’s wrong? What are you mad about?”

“It’s that word. Compatible.”

“Compatible? What’s wrong with that?”

“I hate it.”

“You do? Why?”

“It’s so…I don’t know…it sounds so suburban. When I hear it, I think of a prim and proper existence. You know…wife, three kids, a big shaggy dog, and a station wagon. It’s a niceword…it’s…jeez, I hate that word.”

“My God, I can’t believe this. You don’t like nice?”

“Yeah, well, I guess I’m just screwed up,” Ric said, scratching his head.

“Okay, so what word could we use instead of compatible?”

“We’re…hey, I know. We’re attuned to each other.”

“Attuned,” Reny responded, and then frowned. “No, not attuned. I don’t like that.”

“I know. How about, in sync,”Ric said. “I like that. It’s more of a modern, hip word anyway, don’t you think?”
