Chapter 8

Lydia opened the bag of food and set everything on the rolling table before pushing it to him. “Well, guys, I’m going to get going.” She gently hugged Chad and whispered in his ear, “He’s cute. And he’s totally into you.”

Chad’s lips turned down. “You’re so wrong. And you don’t need to leave.”

She grinned. “Trust me. I need to get going.” She twirled around and extended her hand to Jeff. “It was really nice to meet you. I’ve got to run. I have plans later.” At Jeff’s grin, she winked at him and smiled. “Good luck,” she mouthed to him and swept out the door.

Chad struggled to pull himself up to a sitting position that would allow him to eat, but he was sore all over and the cast was a huge nuisance. He grumbled as he shifted, then nearly shrieked when pain stabbed through his entire body.

“Let me help.” Jeff slid his arm under Chad’s neck, pushing him forward a little and rearranging the pillows so he sat at a better angle.
