Chapter 4

The problem with Izz taking over Nicky’s old work schedule was that Dante and Izz were off on different days. It would be inconvenient if Dante ever got the balls to ask Izz to go out. He’d decided that their little run in in front of the bakery was a fluke. Dante couldn’t be in a relationship with an employee, right?

Dante glanced up at the wall of pictures. His grandparents stared back at him. Nona and Papi had been married for almost seventy years when Nona passed. They’d worked together just fine. What’s the worst that could happen?

He rearranged the schedule of the other busser, Joe, and one of his other chefs so that both Dante and Izz would both be off next Saturday night. Dante finished his beer and picked up his trash. Upstairs, he stopped by his office and pinned the schedule to the bulletin board above the set of lockers where staff stored their belongings.
