Chapter 12

“I don’t know. Ask her.”

So much for service with a smile. I did ask, though. The other girl, her nametag read Rachael, didn’t have much to offer either.

“No one remembers last week or Red Light, Yellow Lab, Green Eyes,” I told Major upon my return to our table. “Thanks for coming up to the counter with me, by the way.”

“Good to know.”

Bite of burger, fry, sip of shake, Major had a system. “Maybe Mr. Perfect used the drive-thru.”

My butt had barely hit the seat. “Good one.” I popped back up. “Let’s ask that cute little ginger boy over there.” I pointed to the redheaded college kid in the headset.

“He looks kind of busy.”

“Be right back.” I grabbed three of Major’s fries and took off.

“Get your own, Sally!”
