Chapter 65

“Do the math, Sally.”

“Do it for me, Major, like usual.”

“You three having your own private party out here?” Abby’s timing was perfect.

“They’re fighting over which one finds me the most repulsive.”

“He loves me,” Major said.

“AJ?”

“No, Abs, Sally. He was willing to give me up, though, and give up AJ, too. He wanted us together…me and him…me and AJ…not…him.” Major rubbed his temples, as if explaining it all was giving him a headache. “Let me start over.”

It did sound confusing, and I was part of it.

“Sal was putting me first, ahead of himself, ahead of what he wants.”

“What I truly want,” I took a deep breath, “is to be with Major. And I think…maybe…” My head hurt, too. Damned alarm! My heart hurt a little, as well. I was scared about what I was feeling and also for Abby’s reaction. “One problem with that now is that he thinks he can’t be happy unless you are. ‘I must remain celibate, until the whole world has fallen in love,’ he says.”
