Chapter 6

Something told him these kids would whine over anything less.

“If you will, Gordon.” She swept a dismissive hand toward the box.

The butler, Gordon, stepped around the last of the house and removed the box from the cake, revealing Dakota’s work. A hush fell over the kitchen as Evelyn walked around it, inspecting it from every angle. Dakota went for four tiers, figuring more was better, and each individual tier was a varying shade of blue, starting out pale at the top and getting subsequently darker with each layer. And a surprise waited inside, each tier actually was comprised of five layers glued together with yet more frosting. Dakota was generally surprised to have found the time.

Which reminded him, a thank you to Scott was in order. His assistance might have looked minimal to anyone else, but it was more than enough for Dakota.
