Chapter 56

Kerry looks to Lisa. “Little help?”

“Samir.” Lisa levels a be serious glare at her friend and (semi-) gently shoves Kerry closer to him. “It’s the best present ever. You gonna say ‘Thank you’?”

“I’m gonna say something,” Samir says. “It’s not him I’m mad at.”

Lisa rolls her eyes. “I know, I’m a terrible friend. You were broken up for two whole days because of me, not that you were ever together.”

“We couldbe together.”

“So go be together. He’s right here, and he comes with dinner.”

Kerry waggles the gift certificate again.

Marc Brown clears his throat. Samir seems suddenly to recall that his life is not a tourist-trap melodrama, and makes preparations to step off the stage. “I have been dying to try that restaurant,” he tells Marc. “It’s a very generous gift. Thank you.”

“Be sure to report back.”
