“You’ll want to settle in for a day or two, I expect,” he said, turning to the Englishman. “When you’re ready, send one of the boys for the foreman, El Segundo, and he’ll show you around. Then you can decide what you want to do next. Things will run well enough without your intervention if that’s how you want it.”
The dapper man swung down from the buckboard and stepped onto the veranda. “I’ll be ready to go out tomorrow,” he said. “I can sit a horse, perhaps not all day yet, but long enough to look around the headquarters here. I’ll find my way down to the corrals after breakfast.”
Sombra kept his face impassive. “I’ll pass the word.”
Although weariness was visible in the new owner’s posture and movements, he held himself erect as he led the two lads into the house with the larger of his trunks. Watching, Sombra shook his head.
