Chapter 14

He remembered one of Keru’s earlier comments, about loving a good story. “You have your polar bear story now,” he said, “and you survived to tell it.”

“A polar bear story wouldn’t be any use if I was dead.”

“Nothing would be any use if you were dead.”

“It is a good story, though. Especially the part about how lucky we were to be around a polar bear which wasn’t hungry.”

Adley suspected the entire village would be discussing their encounter soon enough, and he wasn’t looking forward to his time as a minor celebrity. He’d probably be asked to tell the story two dozen times, and his sister would have ‘helpful’ suggestions on how to improve his storytelling technique. Nevertheless, he had to admit that the adventure would make a good tale.

“I’m glad it has a happy ending,” he said.

“A story without a happy ending isn’t a good story at all.”
