Chapter 23

It had clearly been something pretty savage that had killed him. No human, or indeed a rogue dog come to that, would have ripped his throat out like that. Tyler shuddered at the memory. He hadn’t been able to pick up anything at the scene—Archie had been already cold and the killer hadn’t left any impressions other than hunger and rage.

He had liked Archie and spent quite a bit of time with him one way or another, but they’d not had a great deal in common. Archie had as much to hide as he had himself. It was a bad shock to see him ripped to shreds like that when he wasn’t expecting it. So much so he’d allowed Carter to work out there was a connection there. He was going to have to be careful how he handled Carter. He wasn’t a man who would be easily put off, and Lew couldn’t see him being sympathetic to Lew’s other secret life, either. The attraction of his broad shoulders and quiet competence was a red herring Lew couldn’t afford.
