Lew was silent for a moment or two, processing, thinking about Mira. “That’s good, I think from Mira’s point of view. Perhaps that’s why she’s not dead. She should have died from that throat wound, you saw it yourself. And I think it got smaller, even before the doctor got there. I think that means it didn’t Pull from her. Kelly was right—she must have turned the Pull and taken energy from the Creature, instead.” He paused again, ordering his thoughts and trying not to think about Mira being mauled. “Okay. Archie was helping me to find Mira. He introduced me to Kelly. As far as I can make out, Kelly is this retired powerful old magical dude who Worked with a group of even more powerful old magical dudes fifty or so years ago and then stopped when he got married and had kids because he worked out how fucking dangerous it all is.” He shot back the rest of his brandy and Carter refilled it wordlessly.
