Chapter 30

“Everything you hoped The Village would be?” Br’er asked.

Ray smiled. “Yes. I just wish…” He stopped.

“What?”

Ray shook his head. “Nothing. Everything’s perfect.”

What he hadn’t told Br’er was that he was about to say he wished this feeling of freedom to be himself could be with him all the time.

Before Br’er could protest and ask for more of an explanation, the food arrived. As Kent predicted, the hamburgers were delicious and so big that when Kent returned and asked if they had room for dessert, they quickly declined.

“We will have coffee, though,” Br’er said. He looked at Ray and added, “If you don’t mind. I’d just like to sit for a while. This is a great atmosphere, don’t you think?”

“Sure. It’s great. I’d like that,” Ray replied.
