Chapter 123

“You say that about every guy you go out with.” Amy set the shirts on the bed and folded her hands in her lap. “You know, it’s good that you’re always so upbeat and positive about everything. Lord knowsyou shouldn’t be, with all the hellish relationships and encounters you’ve been through.” She shook her head. “But shit happens, you know? And a fortune cookie or astrology reading shouldn’t be your guide to everything. Your heart, as well as your head, need to be in charge. Just because the color of a guy’s shirt happens to match up with a horoscope doesn’t mean it’s worth the risk. I’m tired of seeing you hurt and disappointed. You need to be smart about these things.”

“My heart is in charge, and my head is always engaged,” I retorted, grabbing the shirts she had re-hung on hangers and putting them back in the closet. “And, yes, it’s always worth the risk. I’m open to love in whatever form it appears. The male form, naturally,” I said with a snicker.
