“Pleasant dreams, love,” he said, and then I fell asleep.

I awoke at midnight to see a few pills on the bedside table, next to a glass of water. How sweet. My headache had receded, somewhat, but I took the pills and water anyway, to get rid of the remaining discomfort.
I got up and went to the bathroom. After emptying my bladder, I wandered into the living room, where I saw Benjy lying on the couch. He was fast asleep, and I didn’t have the heart to wake him. I went to my linen closet and found an extra blanket. I walked back to where he lay and gently covered him with it.
Even if our burgeoning relationship didn’t last, and we ended up being just friends, I would still treasure having a man such as he in my life. Before I could move away, Benjy stirred, and his eyes opened.
“Everything all right?” he asked, sitting up, his old T-shirt clinging desperately to his muscled frame, just like I wanted to.
