Mom breathed deep. “Water under the bridge. Your dad and I worked it out, but it took a lot of effort.”She leaned forward and cupped my cheek. “I need you to look deep down in your heart and see the truth that’s always been there and always will be. You love Walt, and you miss him desperately. You’re needed here, and he needs you. Find a reason to stay. Understand?” She kissed my forehead and stepped back.
“Now, I have some canning to do, and you should reacquaint yourself with the farm. We’ve changed up a few things. Walt’s updated our website, and we get a ton more orders than we used to, thanks to his marketing strategies. Maybe later, you and I can work on some ideas for baked goods, chocolates, and so on to sell.”
I’d always loved cooking, but baking was my favorite thing to do. In fact, that had been my main job while I lived at the farm before I’d left it five years ago. “I’m happy to help where I can, Mom, but I don’t know if I can promise anything with Walt.”
