Chapter 10

“As I’m sure you’re aware,” Fletch replied, “there was a murder last night of a prominent couple in the city, Mr. and Mrs. Newell. What you might not be aware of, although you should be, Amery, is that we make it a point to photograph anyone who is around, watching the scene of the crime.” He took a set of photos from his briefcase, handing them to Amery. “Strangely enough, you and he—” he nodded toward Myles, “—were there. I want to know why.”

Amery looked at the pictures, stabbing his finger on one which showed him and Myles right before they’d left the area to avoid the arrival of reporters with their cameras.

Myles reaction was exactly what Amery hoped it would be, on the surface. “We often walk along the parkway,” he said, smiling at Amery before returning his attention to Fletch. “It’s quiet and the houses are pretty spectacular. We like to pretend we’re wealthy enough to own one, and debate which one it would be if we were.”
