I wanted to agree, but I couldn’t.
“You’re a great guy,” he added. He let his gaze roam over my face, and stopped at my mouth. He licked his lips and shifted in his seat.
“Thank you,” I mumbled.
“I mean it.” He leaned closer and parted his lips. Was he going to kiss me?
Benji cupped my cheek but gave me space to stop him if I wanted. My eyes drifted to his pouty pale lips. What would they feel like against mine?
I didn’t have to wait long to find out because between one heartbeat and the next, he pressed his mouth against mine. He was warm and vibrant and it was as if he wrapped tendrils of happy energy around me. I closed my eyes and kissed him back.
It was…nice. He didn’t set off any fireworks, but his lips were soft and tasted faintly of citrus. He hummed, and I allowed myself to enjoy it for a moment.
Until I remembered who had shown up on my doorstep earlier.
I pulled back and opened my eyes. “I’m sorry,” I said.
